Information about Programs

Our credentials
We are approved by the California Department of Education and the Los Angeles Unified School District under SES (Supplemental Education Services) as an approved provider of free tutoring services.

Funding
Our primary funding source for our free programs comes from the state of California by the U.S. Government, with additional funding from No Child Left Behind. We also seek individual contributions from donors to keep our services free or low cost for the community.

Our students and grade levels
Currently we serve youth K-12 in the San Fernando public schools.

Where
Most tutoring takes place in small groups at facilities conveniently located throughout the area. By working in these groups, students are better able to stay focused, benefit from peer encouragement, and learn team building skills.

Small groups
Most tutoring sessions are conducted in small groups, however, if preferred, one-on-one tutoring is available for students at an hourly rate. Research indicates that motivation and interest increases when students work in a small group vs. working alone. "Learning in a small group context enhances students' overall learning experiences in several ways. For example it can:

Address gaps in student's knowledge
Allow students to discover and engage with a range of perspectives, ideas and backgrounds
Assist students in clarifying their attitudes
Help students develop a sense of academic rigor
Provide opportunities for students to receive feedback
Encourage students to be self-directed and independent learners
Help students develop skills in critical thinking, problem solving, communication, interpersonal relations, team work, and lifelong learning skills

Frequency
Enrolled students participate in tutoring either once or twice per week. More frequent tutoring is available at an hourly rate.

After school transportation
We do not offer transportation, however, we offer several facilities that are conveniently located throughout the area. Most students find that they can easily attend one of our tutoring locations.

Multi-Culture
We are a bilingual organization and able to speak to the parents of our students in Spanish. However, we do NOT tutor in Spanish!
